Video clip for '1453'

This 24-minute video is a perfect companion piece to the summer reading that I assigned for my Euro students in 2009. The fall of Constantinople is a vital turning point in the history of the West, yet few understand why. Questions raised in this video might prompt a very interesting discussion of point of view or the rise of Islam's influence in Europe.

This Day in History Link

The link below will take you to one of my favorite history sites. It's History.com's "This Day in History." The clips are mostly very brief, but try the links on the left side for more information on the topic in which you're interested. Type in today's date, or your birthday, or any random date in the small box in the orange bar, and presto! A must-use for the history nut. Here's the link:

Introduction

Well, well... this will be quite an experiment indeed. Never did I think that I would become a "blogger," but as Bob Dylan once famously said, "the times, they are a-changin." I was very impressed with Alicia's presentation at our recent institute day, and I wanted to be a part of the "17 Things" project, so here we go. Wish me luck fellow bloggers, I may need it.
